KANDAL, Cambodia: Cambodian fisherman Sles Hiet lives at the mercy of the Mekong: A massive river that feeds tens of millions but is under threat from the Chinese dams cementing Beijing’s physical – and diplomatic – control over its Southeast Asian neighbours.

The 32-year-old, whose ethnic Cham Muslim community live on rickety house boats that bob along a river bend in Kandal province, says the size of his daily catch has been shrinking by the year.

tuoitre.vn TTO – Kế hoạch 5 năm phát triển sông Mekong thuộc cơ chế Hợp tác Mekong – Lan Thương (LMC) do Trung Quốc khởi xướng đang gây lo ngại trong giới chuyên gia, đặc biệt là về động cơ chính trị của Bắc Kinh.

Tháng 12-2017, ngoại trưởng 6 nước khu vực sông Mekong nhóm họp ở thành phố Đại Lý thuộc tỉnh Vân Nam (Trung Quốc) để thông qua đề cương kế hoạch 5 năm phát triển dòng sông này. Dự kiến các nhà lãnh đạo sẽ chốt lại đề xuất trong cuộc họp dự kiến diễn ra cuối tháng 1-2018 ở Campuchia.

Cuộc họp Việt Trung hủy bỏ vì căng thẳng về Biển Đông

MANILA (Reuters) – Một cuộc họp đã sắp xếp giữa hai bộ trưởng ngoại giao TQ và VN bên lề cuộc họp của cả vùng đã bị hủy bỏ, quan chức sứ quán TQ cho biết, trong căng thẳng ngày càng tăng giữa hai nước về Biển Đông.

Việt Nam đã đòi hỏi lời lẽ nhắc đến quan tâm về bồi đắp đảo nhân tạo và chỉ trích việc quân sự hóa ở Biển Đông trong một thông cáo của các bộ trưởng ngoại giao của ASEAN (Hiệp hội các Quốc gia Đông Nam Á).

Việt Nam đã trỗi lên như là người đối lập lớn tiếng nhất đối với các tuyên bố quyền hành của TQ trên tuyến hàng hải với hơn 3000 tỉ đô đi qua mỗi năm.

Sứ quán TQ không nói gì về lý do hủy bỏ cuộc họp, đã được lên lịch cho ngày thứ hai ở Manila, giữa Wang Yi của TQ và Phạm Bình Minh của VN.

Một quan chức TQ nói “họ đã gặp nhau”.  Bộ Ngoại Giao VN không trả lời yêu cầu giải thích.

Thông tin từ cuộc Họp các Ngoại trưởng ASEAN lần thứ 50 ở Manila, Phi Luật Tân, hồ hởi cho hay ASEAN đã thống nhất khung của Code of Conduct (COC – Bộ Luật Ứng Xử ở Biển Đông), và sẽ thảo luận khung này với Trung Quốc, và TQ có vẻ như sẽ hợp tác.

Đây có phải là một bước tiến đến đâu hay không, có lẽ là tùy thuộc 100% vào ASEAN muốn tiến đến đâu. Nhưng nếu phải đợi TQ, thì bước tiến có khả năng là zero hay dấu âm.

MANILA: Southeast Asian countries took a softer stance on South China Sea disputes during a weekend summit, according to a statement issued on Sunday, which went easy on China by avoiding tacit references to its building and arming of its manmade islands.

A chairman’s statement of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was released about 12 hours after the summit ended, and dropped references to “land reclamation and militarization” included in the text issued at last year’s meeting, and in an earlier, unpublished version seen by Reuters on Saturday.

Nhiều sản phẩm Việt nổi tiếng gắn với các chỉ dẫn địa lý của VN từng bị đánh cắp tại nước ngoài, một số nhãn hàng bị các doanh nghiệp nước ngoài ‘mượn’ sử dụng một cách vô tư.

Nguy cơ này càng gia tăng khi VN gia nhập Cộng đồng kinh tế chung ASEAN.
