English: Is Vietnam Swimming Naked?

Nền kinh tế Việt Nam đang hưởng lợi từ việc chuyển hướng vốn Đầu tư trực tiếp nước ngoài – FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) đến từ Trung Quốc do kết hợp của việc tăng thu nhập, lực lượng lao động giảm và căng thẳng thương mại ở Trung Quốc. Với 1.5 tỷ USD đầu tư vào Việt Nam mỗi tháng, việc làm sẵn có, đói nghèo giảm và tăng trưởng ở mức 7%. Điều này châm ngòi xúc tiến cải cách nhằm vào việc giải quyết vấn đề giá trị gia tăng thấp ở nhiều ngành công nghiệp xuất khẩu và khối tư nhân yếu kém trong nước.

Vietnam takes a stand in the South China Sea

After buckling in previous confrontations, Vietnam is finally facing down Chinese expansionism in its oil and gas-rich waters

Normally, Vietnam would have backed down. In July 2017 and March 2018, when China reportedly threatened military action if Vietnam did not stop oil exploration in contested areas of the South China Sea, Vietnam blinked and withdrew its vessels.

Last year, Vietnam scrapped a US$200 million oil and gas development project with Spanish energy giant Repsol situated within its own exclusive economic zone (EEZ) due to Chinese pressure. However, when a Chinese survey ship and coastguard vessels sailed last month to the contested oil-rich Vanguard Bank, which also lies well within Vietnam’s southeastern EEZ, Hanoi stood its ground.

On August 5, the European Union’s (EU) chief diplomat Federica Mogherini will sign a new defense agreement with Vietnam, the first such security deal Brussels will have with a Southeast Asian nation.

It is the latest indication that the EU is trying to forge a closer defense relationship with the region and Vietnam in particular, which is at the heart of disputes with China in the South China Sea.

Câu chuyện giữ dân, giữ chủ quyền trên 1.400km biên giới phía Bắc thường chỉ được kể qua những cuộc giao tranh. Nhưng hàng ngàn thôn bản xa xôi hẻo lánh nơi này đã góp phần giữ gìn dải đất biên cương suốt 40 năm qua, không phải bằng tiếng súng.

  • “Be Their Bodhisattva,” a striking anti-wildlife trafficking campaign, was organized in Vietnam from Jan. 25 to March 25 this year.
  • The campaign caught the attention of both the public and prominent national media outlets.
  • However, record-breaking seizures of wildlife parts destined for Vietnam in the months since demonstrate the breadth and depth of the problem.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — In late January, WildAid and the Ho Chi Minh City-based Center of Hands-on Actions and Networking for Growth and Environment (CHANGE) launched a graphic anti-wildlife trafficking campaign focused on three animals: pangolins, elephants and rhinos.

voanews – TAIPEI – Japan is helping Vietnam build a defense against the larger, more militarily powerful China as Vietnam says Beijing’s forces are occupying more than their legal share of the South China Sea.

Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya and his Vietnamese counterpart, Ngo Xuan Lich, met May 3 to “advance cooperation” on maritime security, Tokyo-based NHK television online said.

Biên phòng – Có những người Mông, chỉ sau một vài lời kích động, dụ dỗ của những đối tượng xấu bên kia biên giới đã rời bỏ quê hương tham gia thành lập “Nhà nước Mông”. Sau khi vượt biên trái phép sang bên kia biên giới, không chỉ phải sống chui lủi, khốn khổ trong rừng, mà còn bị bọn cầm đầu đe dọa nếu không nghe lời chúng hoặc bỏ trốn sẽ bị bắn chết, họ mới “tỉnh mộng” và hối không kịp về con đường đã chọn.

Secretariat building, sheathed in shiny aluminum, glass and marble and overlooking New York’s East River, Vietnamese diplomats are soon to celebrate their nation’s selection as a non-permanent member in the U.N. Security Council. As a country that has experienced the tragedies of wars, including one drawn out and fierce conflict with America five decades ago, Hanoi’s foreign policy role is now forged on peaceful cooperation, stability and independence.

The air forces of four of Asia’s leading powers nearly came to blows in the skies over the Sea of Japan, or East Sea, last week. As Russia and China conducted their first joint aerial patrol, South Korean fighters fired more than 300 warning shots at a Russian command and control aircraft that crossed into South Korea’s air defense identification zone. Meanwhile, Japanese fighters scrambled in case Japanese territory came under fire.
