Talking with an earthworm

Sapa corner

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Earthworms are small and helpful creatures. In my balcony garden, I often see them in soil pots. They live underground and loosen the soil so that my plants can absorb water and nutrients better.

Sometimes, after a heavy rain, I find some earthworms coming out from the soil and wriggling on the ground. I guess they want to return home but don’t know how.

To bring an earthworm back to the soil, I use a short, thin stick. I come close to the worm and say something like this, “Hey worm, please crawl onto this stick and you’ll be home. Don’t be afraid. I promise I won’t harm you.”

Interestingly, a worm usually hesitates at first, but then it slowly moves onto the stick and lets me take it back to a soil pot.

Can an earthworm understand what I say?

I’m not sure but I believe that if we treat earthworms gently and speak with them from our hearts, they will feel safe and let us help them.

Sharing with you.

May all beings be safe and happy.

With love,

An An
