The Fox and the Hound is a 1981 American animated film by Walt Disney based on the novel of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix. The film tells two friends, a red fox named Tod and a hound named Copper, as they struggle to maintain their friendship despite their own rising instincts and social pressures around them that demand that they remain enemies.

The song was written by Richard Johnston and sung by Pearl Bailey (as the owl Big Mama).
