Playing music at Đức Bà Church

Dear brothers and sisters,

One evening before Christmas 3 years ago, I went to the Đức Bà Church (Notre-Dame Cathedral) with my friend.

On one side of the Đức Bà Church are the Central Post Office and the Book Street. On the sidewalk of the Post Office, there was a man about 50 years old singing and playing a guitar. In front of him was a small box for people to put money in.

We and a few other people stood there listening to him play music. He sang classic English songs. Then my friend borrowed a plastic chair from a nearby street vendor and used the chair’s surface as a drum. I did the same with another chair. The three of us became a street band. The man sang lead and we sang backup. He played guitar and we played drums.

We sat under an old tree, right at the entrance of the Central Post Office. The more we played, the more fiery we became. A lot of people came to see us perform and put money in the box. Sometimes I went out to dance with the children who, with their parents there, were watching us. Everyone was very excited.

We played for about 2 hours then stopped.

The next morning, when my friend and I were walking on Hai Ba Trung Street (very far from Đức Bà Church), a young girl recognized me. She asked: “Did you play music at the church yesterday afternoon?” I smiled and nodded.

Well, you may become famous playing music on the street.

Life is beautiful.

Share with you.

Have a nice day.
