Stay firm

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Life is not easy. I am sure that you all would agree to that. So, all the great teachers of the world, from the ancient times till today, have focused on one job: figuring out the way to make life easy and teach others to go that way.

I am in no way a great teacher, but I am doing that – figuring out the way to make life easy and teach you, my readers, to go that way.

And the way I see is: Know how you like to live, and stay firm on that way.

Say, you like to live honestly. Then start to live honestly all day, all the life, beginning now, and stay firm on the path until you die.

People fail in life because they are wishy-washy. They don’t stay firm on anything. Now this, tomorrow that (nay đây mai đó).

First, I need to explain further. To stay firm means you stand firmly on your principle, but you still don’t grasp onto it. When you need to temporarily drop your principle, then drop it.

Say, a group of gangsters with weapons are chasing a man, the man runs into your house for rescue, the gang gets to your house and asks: “Do you see a guy running past here?” You don’t want to be stupid enough to say: “Yes, he is in my house.” You want to say something like, “I see a man running to that direction” and point to a distant road for the gang. That means, no grasping.

But when you drop your honesty principle, you should have a good reason to drop. Otherwise, stand firm on your principle.

If you do that, what happen?

I advise many people who want to do business: “You know, whatever you do, stay persistent with it, and you will become millionaire or billionaire, be it selling bánh mì, or picking up garbage, or teaching beauty salon, or doctoring, or lawyering. Everything you do constantly and seriously, you will become supergood at it and make tons of money from it.”

So, if you stay with your honesty constantly, you will become supergood at it, and you sell it for tons of money.

Simple economic principle.

I intentionally use the term “selling” here, because everyone of us does selling all our life. People selling phở and clothes, lawyers sell arguments to win cases, doctors selling healing skills, writers selling stories, teachers selling knowledge…

When you are good at what you sell, you get tons of money. That is simple economics.

Honesty is also a commodity you sell to the world. When you are supergood at it, many people will want to buy your honesty, by inviting you to do many important things with them. Everyone in the world needs honest partners.

Of if you sell something, like clothing, people will flock to your shop because they trust you.

So, just choose the one thing you want to live with – honesty, generosity, gentleness, tolerance, loving, supporting – just choose one and stay firm with it to become a master at it.

One thing to live with. That would make life easy. And you will succeed in life, however you define success.

Trust me.

With compassion,

Hoành
