What do you do when you’re not OK?

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

You are OK when you sit by a lake to enjoy the cool breeze and the little waves twinkling under the warm sun and think about nothing other than “This is so relaxed and wonderful.”

You are not OK when you feel depressed, sorrowful, angry, fearful, lost, hopeless… In other words, you feel unhappy.

The Buddhists have a term for all those unhappy states: restless, unquiet.

When your heart is unquiet, what do you do?

“Nothing. You do nothing when your heart is unquiet.” Remember this cardinal rule. It may save your life.

An unquiet heart is blind and stupid.

Many unquiet hearts kill and maim, say stupid things, and do crazy things. You can see them on the media’s daily news.

When your heart is unquiet, do nothing, and wait till your heart is quiet again. A quiet heart is wise and can have a good strategy on what to do. An unquiet heart is totally stupid and can do only dumb things.

So, when you feel your heart are unquiet, just try to do nothing (which is very hard, because your restless heart keeps telling you to do something [stupid] immediately).

Do nothing, and let the time fairy do her wonders – cooling your heart down gradually.

Wait till you’re cool and calm, then you can make some decision then.

Be wise. Be in control of your mind. At all times.

Wish we all be wise.

With compassion,

Hoành
