Dear Brothers and Sisters,
“Have some good sense of humor” is the equivalent of “Have some good comedy blood, hãy có chút máu hài/máu tiếu lâm tốt.”
Humor is good for you. It makes you often mile and laugh, it makes your bad situation look better, it takes life a little less serious so you don’t attach yourself to anything, it makes you happy, and most importantly it makes you youthful and beautiful. Notice that when a photographer takes your pictures, he often tells you to smile, because smiling makes you look youthful, happy and beautiful.
You guys and gals who spend tons of money on all kinds of expensive cosmetic products to make sure you look like Miss and Mister Universe, think about this: You will look good if you smile often, without cosmetics with the potential to ruin your skin, while saving for yourself tons of money. What will you do with that such colossal savings?
Talking about good sense of humor means there is bad sense of humor too. What is the difference between good humor and bad humor?
The good-bad distinction in humor is exactly the distinction between positive thinking and negative thinking.
Good humor lifts people up, turns bad fortune to good fortune, changes negativity into positivity, stands on good taste, and focuses on gentleness, trust, caring, love and happiness…
Bad humor puts people down, turns good fortune to bad fortune, changes positivity into negativity, stands on bad taste, and focuses on cruelty, distrust, jealousy, hatred and misery…
That’s why we say, “Have some good sense of humor”, meaning “Have some positive sense of humor.”
A good sense of humor is truly a miracle maker – it helps you look at anything in life with the look of a big-belly Zen master, like the laughing Buddha aka Maitreya Buddha aka Phật Di Lặc – always laughing, always happy, and probably always enjoying food too, with that huge belly.

Maitreya Buddha – Phật Di Lặc
(Eating is a great source of happiness. Just make sure you eat only tasty but healthy food. And today healthy means you don’t have the Maitreya belly. OK? Jesus often taught his disciples while they were having a meal together, such as the famous Last Supper the night before he got arrested and executed. Business folks today also like to talk shop over a meal. Eating makes people happy. Eating together make people feel happy and closer to each other.)
Back to the main subject: Smiling and happiness always go together, like two sides of a coin. When you’re happy you smile, and when you smile you’re happy.
So, the simple way to make you happy all the time is to smile all the time. And you can smile all the time if you have a good sense of humor – looking at life as a series of good people and good events going through your life and they are so amazing that they make you smile all the time.
Wish you all have some good sense of humor.
With compassion,
Hoành
